The Ferenc Mádl Institute of Comparative Law (MFI) and the Polish Institute of Justice (Instytut Wymiaru Sprawiedliwości – IWS) hosted the joint launch of the Polish-Hungarian Research Platform on 10 May 2021. The project is supported by the Ministry of Justice of Poland and the Polish branch of the Central European Professors’ Network and is expected to operate in its present form until 31 December 2021.

The launch event organised by the IWS in Warsaw was held in a hybrid format (face-to-face and online) and featured speeches by Dr Marcin Romanowsk, the Polish Deputy Minister of Justice, Prof. Dr Paweł Sobczy, Director of IWS, Dr hab. Marcin Wielec, Deputy Director of IWS, and Prof. Dr János Ede Szilágyi, Head of the MFI. Prof. Dr András Zs. Varga, President of the Curia, also assisted in opening the event.

The Polish-Hungarian Research Platform conducts research in four thematic areas and research groups: (a) constitutional change, with a special focus on European integration and constitutional identity, (b) rule of law, (c) administrative justice, and (d) judicial efficiency.

As a result of the research, each group will publish a book for a wider international audience and will organise several thematic professional events.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives from both countries and members of the platform, including Prof. Grzegorz Pastuszko and Prof. Artur Mezglewski from the Polish branch, Prof. Dr András Patyi, Prof. Dr Balázs Schanda, and Prof. Dr Csaba Varga from the Hungarian branch.
