On 26-27 October 2023, the Central European Academy will organize the “The Interaction of National Economic Governance with the EU Integration and Contested Areas” conference in cooperation with the Faculty of Law of the University of Miskolc, Ferenc Mádl Institute of Comparative Law and the Central European Association for Comparative Law.

The research project of Economic Governance examines the economic aspects of governance, including its fiscal (broken down into public finance, taxation and state aid areas) and monetary policy pillars. The research project is peculiar in the sense that it does not only analyze the above topics from a general, theoretical perspective but the special point of view of the CEE countries as well as the EU law position are also taken into consideration. The CEE perspective is elaborated on a country-by-country basis (7 EU Member States and 1 non-EU country), however, the research project aims at deducing general conclusions from the observation of national peculiarities. This approach enables the exploration of similarities and differences in terms of the positions of the Member States as well as in relation to the Member State – EU positions. Consequently, the reasons for the potentially interfering viewpoints can be identified. The research intends to shed light on the advantages and challenges of the functioning of a supranational community in the field of economic policy, with special regard to aligning the objectives of the EU and those of its Member States.
