175 Years of the April Laws: Fundamental Legal Transformations in 1848 and as a Consequence of the Springtime of Nations

In 2023 there will be 175 years since the enactment of the so-called April Laws in Hungary (1848), which gave the foundations of the modern state.

As a consequence, the Legal History Subcommittee of Section IX of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Legal History Research Group of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Ferenc Mádl Institute of Comparative Law will organise a conference on “175 Years of the April Laws: Fundamental Legal Transformations in 1848 and as a consequence of the Springtime of Nations” on 5 April 2023 in Budapest, to which you are cordially invited.

Polish-Hungarian Friendship Day

March 23 marks Polish-Hungarian Friendship Day. The declaration on its establishment was adopted on March 12, 2007 by a unanimous decision of all members of the Hungarian Parliament. Four days later – on March 16, 2007 – such a resolution was adopted by acclamation by the Polish Parliament.

Children’s Rights Day

2022. On 15-16 December, 2022, the Ferenc Mádl Institute of Comparative Law, together with the Hungarian Association of Comparative Law, the Society for Children’s Rights within the framework of Children’s Rights Day convened a two-day conference on international childrens’ rights, which took place at the Sapientia College of Theology. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child introducing the definition of the child into the discourse about children’s rights formed the backbone of the conference.

The 10th year anniversary of the Hungarian Criminal Code

On the occasion of the 10th year anniversary of the Hungarian Criminal Code, the conference regarding the achievements of the code of substantive criminal law took place on the 8th and 9th of November of 2022 in the ceremonial hall of the Hungarian Surpreme Court. Besides the development of the national criminal law, topics like the current criminal law issues of the neighboring countries and the newest criminological tendencies in Central Europe were introduced. The quality of the event was raised by the outstanding actors of the national and international scientific community and the prominent representatives of the Hungarian public sector.

The current issues of emergency powers

The international conference took place at University of Miskolc Faculty of Law on 25 October 2022. The scientific event provided good opportunity to the scholars from Central and Eastern European countries to discuss the current issues of emergency powers and exceptional situations. Participants of the conference came from several countries of Central- and Eastern Europe. In the framework of the conference also the first volume of the newly launched book series of Ferenc Mádl Institute was presented.
